Mutation March 2024

Here’s to Year Six! After Mutation March 2023 did not go to plan at all, I decided I needed to change my approach with this project. From the beginning, I’ve been committed to creating at least three different concepts per prompt. And over the years, my skills have improved, and the quality has gone up, and I’ve been more mindful about drawings becoming merch. I started spending more time per drawing—while still treating it as a daily drawing challenge AND working full or part time. Oh, and managing social media posts, filming and editing videos, and engaging with the other artists participating in Mutation March as well.

So, I’m shifting gears to treat this project as a whole production. In order to make “season six” of Mutation March something I’m really proud of, I have been working on the art for the main series in advance. Come March, when you see the illustrated mutations, keep in mind they were not made under the constraints of a daily art challenge (unlike how I madly did in all previous years).

But of course I can’t rest there. I would feel far too guilty to not also be creating daily like so many others throughout March. To solve this, I will be merging my “Year of Orbs” project with Mutation March. Every day, a digital drawing of Orbs as animals!

A new element introduced last year was a supplemental list of Mutation Ideas. I’ve brought it back, nearly identical, as it was so fun.
